Chief of Police
Elaine M. Rudzinski was appointed Chief of Police of the East Greenbush Police Department in June of 2019. Chief Rudzinski began her policing career in 1995 assigned to the patrol unit until 2003 when she was assigned to the School Resource Officer position for five years. She then returned to the patrol unit where she also oversaw the Sex Offender Unit, was involved in the Community Policing Unit and continued to work a multitude of sex abuse and juvenile cases. In 2016, Chief Rudzinski was assigned in charge of the supervision of the Detective office and oversaw the Juvenile Unit of the department as well. In 2018, Chief Rudzinski was promoted to the position of Detective Sergeant where she remained until June of 2019 when she assumed the Chief’s position. Chief Rudzinski was the first woman in the history of the East Greenbush Police Department to attain any rank above patrol officer, and most notably the rank of Chief of Police.
Chief Elaine M. Rudzinski was raised in the Town of East Greenbush and knew from the early age of twelve years she wanted to become a police officer in her community. Law Enforcement was, and continues to be her career choice because it provides her with the opportunity to work in a profession that is never stagnant and that affords her daily opportunities to challenge herself, while simultaneously providing her with opportunities to help others, provide safety and foster positive change in the lives of the residents of the community she was raised in.
Chief Rudzinski holds an Associate’s Degree in Business from Hudson Valley Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Siena College and a Master’s of Arts in Elementary Education from Sage Graduate School. She is on the Board of Directors at the Zone 5 Training Academy and is an active member in the International, National, New York State and Northeast Associations of Chiefs of Police.
Chief Rudzinski has been married to her husband, Eddie, a retired East Greenbush Police officer for almost 18 years and they are busy raising their beautiful twin daughters. Outside of work Chief Rudzinski enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, camping in the Adirondacks, scrapbooking her families’ adventures and reading.
