Assistant Police Chief Jon Reickert was appointed to the department in 2020. He grew up in the Town of Schodack and attended East Greenbush Central Schools, graduating from Columbia High School in 1989. He began his law enforcement career as a volunteer Police Dispatcher for the Town of Schodack Police Department in the early 1990’s. While continuing his volunteer service he was hired as a Correctional Officer by the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department in 1994. Assistant Chief Reickert attended the Zone 14 Law Enforcement Academy and was subsequently hired by the Schodack Police Department in 1996.
Assistant Chief Reickert worked for the Schodack Police Department for over 24 years, and held the positions of patrolman, sergeant, tactical team member, firearms instructor, tactical team leader and eventually team commander. He held a reoccurring position as an instructor at the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Academy for 20 years, and eventually achieved the rank of Lieutenant in 2015. During his time with the Schodack Police he earned the Combat Cross, Meritorious Service Award, and the Honorable Discharge award, as well as numerous Chief’s commendation memos.
Asst. Chief Reickert attended college in the state of Maine and New York, and holds an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice.
Asst. Chief Reickert is married to Shelli, his wife of 18 years, and both continue to raise their family of three boys.
